The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) in Australia is designed to allow international students who have completed their studies in the country to remain temporarily and gain work experience. This visa category is meant to provide graduates with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired during their studies in an Australian workplace 

                                                    Post-Higher Ed Work Stream

This stream is for graduates who have completed higher education qualifications (bachelor's degree, master's degree, or doctoral degree). The visa duration under this stream can vary from two to three years (except HK nationality), depending on the highest qualification completed and where the studies took place.

Visa Period

• Bachelor’s degree: up to TWO years
• Master’s (coursework or extended) degree: up to TWO years (Indian nationality excepted)
• Master’s (research) or doctoral degree: up to THREE years

Requirements:

At the time that you lodge your visa application, you must: 

• hold an eligible student visa, or have held an eligible student visa within the last 6 months
• have the required level of English proficiency i.e. PTE Academic overall test score of at least 57 (with a minimum of 43 for listening, 48 for reading, 42 for speaking and 51 for writing) OR an IELTS overall test score of at least 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in EACH test component) 

NOTE: In each case, the test must have been undertaken within the 12 months PRIOR to lodging the visa application.

• have made adequate arrangements for health insurance during your stay in Australia, and meet the relevant health and character criteria 
• meet ONE of the qualification and age requirements listed below:

1) Bachelor’s & master’s (coursework or extended) degree holders 

• within the last 6 months, you completed a bachelor’s degree (with or without honours) OR a master’s degree(by coursework) OR a master’s extended degree, following at least 2 years of study in Australia AND
• you are under 35 years old

2) Master’s (research) & doctoral degree holders

• within the last 6 months, you completed a master’s degree(by research) OR a doctoral degree, following at least 2 years of study in Australia AND
• you are under 50 years old

                                                     Post-Vocat Ed Work Stream

This stream is for graduates who have completed VET qualifications and studies that are closely related to occupations in demand in the Australian labor market. It typically allows for an 18-month visa. 

Requirements:

At the time that you lodge your visa application, you must: 

• be under 35 years old
• hold an eligible student visa, or have held an eligible student visa within the last 6 months
• nominate an occupation that is included on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
• have applied to have your skills assessed by the appropriate Australian skills assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation

NOTE: For your application to be successful, your skills must be assessed as relevant to your nominated occupation.

• within the last 6 months, have completed one or more qualifications that are closely related to  your nominated occupation, following at least 2 years of study in Australia

NOTE:For the purposes of this visa, ‘qualification’ means an associate degree, diploma or trade qualification.

• have the required level of English proficiency i.e. PTE Academic overall test score of at least 57 (with a minimum of 43 for listening, 48 for reading, 42 for speaking and 51 for writing) OR an IELTS overall test score of at least 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in EACH test component)
